การถวายของให้พระถือว่าเป็นบุญ แต่บุญไม่ได้จำกัดอยู่แค่นั้น

ให้ของแก่ผู้อื่น โดยเฉพาะคนที่ยากลำบาก ก็ถือว่าเป็นบุญเช่นกัน
เช่น สละของให้แก่คนยากจนหรือคนด้อยโอกาสในเมืองและในชนบท หรือให้เงินช่วยคนพิการ

นอกจากให้เงินหรือสิ่งของแล้ว การให้ชีวิตแก่สัตว์ก็เป็นบุญเหมือนกัน
เช่น ช่วยปลาที่ติดปลักให้กลับคืนสู่แม่น้ำลำคลอง

แม้แต่ต้นไม้ที่เหี่ยวแห้งใกล้ตาย ช่วยรดน้ำให้เขา ก็เป็นบุญเช่นกัน
